GARBAGE COLLECTION POLICIES

Residential garbage is collected by GFL every Thursday, except when on an announced Thursday holiday schedule.

The Town provides recycling services as a part of your garbage fee through WI; a separate cart is provided for this service. Collection of recyclables is every other Thursday.

Please have your carts at the curb on the Wednesday evening before collection.

Please note that all bins must be put back at least 5 foot from the curb after pick-up. Not having your bins in the proper area after pick-up has occurred may result in a warning or more for chronic offenders from the Pikeville Police Department.

The following items will not be picked up by GFL:

  1. Appliances and home furnishings.
  2. Tires.
  3. Yard waste.
    1. If yard waste is in a bin and GFL Pick-Up can see it, they will not dump your cans. Please be mindful of this when reporting a missed can.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which areas can be serviced and which services do I qualify for?

Most areas in town-limits are able to be serviced through our garbage pick up contracted through Waste Industries. If you are moving to a location in town limits and are not sure if you qualify for this service, or want to know what services you are qualified for through the town at that address, please give us a call or fill out a form and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

When is garbage pick up?

Garbage pick up is every Thursday. Recycling pick up is every other Thursday. You can view the 2019 service calendar online on our website or on our Town of Pikeville, NC Facebook page in the photos.

What if my garbage/recycling has been missed?

If your garbage/recycling has been missed, please fill out this form and be sure to include your service address as well as a phone number to reach you. We will be in contact with Waste Industries regarding this issue.

Why were my garbage/recycling cans moved?

If your cans have been moved from where you originally put them Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, please know that our Waste Industries Pick-Up specialist have put them there to show you where they are supposed to be for pick-up. If they are not put there each week after they have been moved, you are likely to be missed. These are Waste Industries' policies, not ours.
