Message from the Chief
On behalf of the men and women of the Pikeville Police Department, welcome to our website!
Located just miles north from the City of Goldsboro, we serve and protect the 700+ in town residents, several thousand citizens residing in our extraterritorial jurisdiction and the over 8,000 motorists traveling through Pikeville on a daily basis. Pikeville is a community that cares a great deal for its neighbors. Our highest priority is to employ current policing technology and tactics without shedding our "neighborhood cop" identity. To do this, we strive to hire and retain the best officers available to wear the uniform.
My policing philosophy focuses heavily upon solving problems in a coordinated effort with our residents through community policing. The Police Department serves as the primary enforcement arm to promote safety in the community, but every resident plays a role in our success. Pikeville is no stranger to this approach, with many individuals actively involved in efforts to improve our Town. The spirit of service that exists in the department is one of our best character traits.
Community Policing is a philosophy and an organizational strategy that promotes a new partnership between citizens and their police. It is based on the premise that both police and the citizens must work together to identify, prioritize, and solve community concerns. We must be creative and innovative as we work with neighborhoods to reduce and prevent crime, disorder, and fear. We will be relentless in our efforts to identify and arrest criminals, while also staying committed to helping our citizens develop long-term solutions to our community problems.
Our goal is to make every encounter with an officer one that is respectful and responsive. We are most successful when our community is engaged and has a high level of trust in the officers that provide police services to their community. We strive to ensure our officers are well trained as they consistently go above and beyond to solve crimes and help community members maintain a high quality of life. We are very fortunate to have a community that supports our officers. The community’s positive words and acts of encouragement during very difficult times motivates our officers to continue to deliver top-notch, empathetic, and respectful service. Officers face an enormous amount of risk every time they come to work, and it is gratifying to know our community appreciates their efforts and supports our department. We as a department are Pikeville Proud to work within such a wonderful community.
We are constantly striving to improve our services by harnessing technology and growing meaningful relationships with our diverse community. By working together, we can all make a difference. We will continue to build on these positive relationships and accomplishments. This is achieved through our focus on accountability, buy-in, and collaboration within both the department and the community. We are your partners and your protectors. We are, and will always be, YOUR police department as we remain “Sworn to Protect & Honored to Serve”
My office is always open to those with concerns, and I encourage you to stop by and visit the department that serves you. Take the opportunity to participate in a department ride along with one of our many officers, tour the facility and more importantly be an involved and informed citizen of Pikeville!
With Honor,
Chief Rodney Jarman
